Vex is the third planet orbiting the star Ramtinia in the Solar Cluster. It is the only world in its system known to support life, with conditions that foster a unique balance between land, water, and atmosphere. The planet’s surface is predominantly covered by water, with oceans making up about 70.7% of its total area. The remaining 29.3% is land, split between three continents: Eos, Bethesda, and Vandorf. These landmasses vary dramatically in climate and terrain, with mountain ranges, volcanic zones, and extensive plains marking the physical landscape.

Vex’s atmosphere, rich in oxygen and nitrogen, supports diverse ecosystems, though the impact of human activities and corporate interests has reshaped large portions of the surface. The planet experiences a variety of climates, from temperate zones ideal for urban development to arid regions repurposed for resource extraction. Vex’s geology remains active, with tectonic plates causing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, shaping both the natural environment and the infrastructure built upon it. The planet’s natural magnetosphere shields it from solar radiation, providing stability to its environment and fostering the growth of life and technology alike.

Geography

Vex has three main continents and two oceans, with a surface area largely dominated by water, making its landmasses unique in terms of both size and corporate zoning. The planet has undergone significant alterations to accommodate urbanization and industrial expansion.

Continents

  • Eos: The largest and most densely populated continent, home to the capital Velv and most of the corporate-controlled zones.
  • Bethesda: Known for its resource extraction, this continent is largely industrial, with regions dedicated to mining and energy production.
  • Vandorf: A more sparsely populated continent with significant agricultural zones and satellite locations of several Eosian gigacorps and megacorps.

Oceans

  • Vanta Ocean: One of the two major oceans, crucial for shipping routes and resource extraction.
  • Azure Ocean: The second large body of water, playing a role in transportation and natural resource harvesting.

Atmosphere

Weather & Climate

Vex’s climate is varied but generally manipulated by corporate interests. Major regions, including Velv, have artificial climates controlled to ensure optimal conditions for market dynamics. While natural climate conditions do exist in less economically important areas, weather control has become a significant factor for urban areas.

  • Artificial Weather Systems: Corporate entities, particularly those in the military-industrial complex, control much of the planet's weather to ensure conditions are favorable for business activities.
  • Temperate Zones: The continents feature moderate climates, with Eos experiencing temperate zones that are ideal for large urban centers.
  • Desertified Regions: Some areas, such as parts of Vandorf, have been artificially desertified for resource extraction operations.

Natural Resources

Vex is rich in natural resources that have been the foundation of its industrial and technological economy. The post-sovereign world operates by exploiting these resources, both on-planet and from its moons.

  • Energy: Significant reserves of fossil fuels, but the primary energy extraction comes from fusion and mining energy from nearby stars.
  • Minerals: Rich in rare metals essential for the advanced technology used by the corporate elites and military forces.
  • Agriculture: Despite the dominance of industrialization, Vandorf maintains agricultural regions that provide food, though much of the population’s sustenance is dependent on corporate-controlled food distribution networks.

History

Vex’s history has been marked by transformation, from the collapse of traditional governments to the rise of corporate control in the pivotal Post-Sovereign Economic Phase (PSEP).

  • Pre-PSEP Era: Originally settled by various colonial powers, Vex experienced rapid growth but faced political instability. Following the collapse of traditional nation-states, corporate entities took over governance.
  • Rise of Corporate Sovereignty: After PSEP, corporations, led by giga-corporations (gigacorps), assumed power. The Consolidated Asset Grid (CAG) became the backbone of the economy, tracking all assets, wealth, and transactions.
  • Current Era: The world operates under a system of corporate dominance with minimal interference, focused on wealth accumulation and resource control. Regulation is, by and large, sporadic and is generally agreed upon and enforced by participating corporations in the name of promoting sound commerce conditions.

Planetary Systems

Vex is part of a multi-planet system within the Solar Cluster, with 5 moons and nearby asteroids also under corporate influence.

  • Zoned Resource Extraction: The moons around Vex, particularly Vexus I and Vexus II, are used as mining stations, harvesting resources like helium-3 and precious metals. Vexus III is a permanent space base.
  • Space Exploration: Corporations have expanded beyond Vex, with plans for interstellar colonization already in the early phases, using the top-tier technology controlled by the planet's wealthiest elites. This was first achieved in the 23rd century, spurring the need for astronautical business standards and operating procedures.

Notable Locations

  • Velv: The nexus of power and the largest urban region on Vex. It is the hub of corporate giants and home to many corporate elites.
  • Baptiste Energy Complex: A vast industrial region dedicated to resource extraction and energy production.
  • Vandorf Agricultural Zones: Despite industrial dominance, Vandorf maintains controlled agricultural zones, largely used to maintain the global supply chain.
